About
“How bad is it going to hurt?” is the first question anyone asks before their first tattoo, and the honest answer — it depends where — is useless on its own.
That is the gap this site fills. One interactive chart that scores every placement on the body, says what the needle actually feels like there, how long most people last in the chair, and how long it takes to heal. Free, no account, nothing you tap is stored on a server.
The chart
- The tattoo pain chart — every placement on the body, scored 1–10, front and back
Where the scores come from
The scores are a relative scale drawn from the broad consensus of people who have sat through these placements, plus the anatomy that drives them: how much skin, fat and muscle sits between the needle and the bone, and how close the nearest nerve bundle runs.
They are not a clinical measurement, and this site is not medical advice. Pain is individual — your tolerance, your artist, the size of the piece and how well you slept all move the number. The chart tells you the order of the placements, not what your body will do.
Every score on the site is held in one data file and rendered from it, so the chart, the ranking and the writing can never disagree with each other.
Who it is for
Anyone doing this with intent, who would rather not redo the arithmetic every time. Beginners welcome. People who already track everything also welcome.
